Read first — global Touran identity

1. Generations & platforms

• Touran I — 2003–2015

  Factory code 1T · platform PQ35 · FWD. Golf-family architecture with five- to seven-seat configurations. Stages: 2003 launch; 2006 product update; 2007 CrossTouran derivative; 2010 major GP2 update; 2015 replaced by Touran II. Historical engines include 1.6, 1.6 FSI, 1.2 TSI, 1.4 TSI, 1.4 TSI EcoFuel, 2.0 FSI, 1.9 TDI, 1.6 TDI, 2.0 TDI and 2.0 EcoFuel — official data records about 90–177 PS depending on version. Manual and DSG. Do not invent Gen III or treat CrossTouran as a generation.

• Touran II — 2015–present (MQB)

  Completely redeveloped on MQB — larger, and Volkswagen’s first van on MQB. Volkswagen stated about 62 kg weight reduction while increasing space. Seats 5/7 · FWD. Powertrains: TSI petrol, TDI diesel, later 1.5 TSI; manual / DSG. Technology by configuration: ACC, Front Assist, Lane Assist, Side Assist, Park Assist, IQ.DRIVE and later Travel Assist / IQ.LIGHT. Taxonomy: touran-ii → 2015-launch / later-updates. Do not invent Touran III.

• CrossTouran — derivative, not a generation

  CrossTouran arrived in 2007 as a Touran I derivative (raised / crossover styling). Log as derivative:crosstouran under Gen I. Never create a separate Touran generation for CrossTouran.

• 5- and 7-seat configurations

  Seating is vehicle-specific: five-door MPV with sliding/folding rear seating and a large variable cargo area. Both 5- and 7-seat layouts exist — log configuration; it is not a generation.

2. Market & model information

• Use the market selector for engines, service and inspection panels
• Germany / France / Italy selector rows defer to Europe/Global framing until curated
• Grey imports must use the original-market handbook and VIN schedule
• CrossTouran packs stay original-market VIN cases — not EU clones

3. Powertrains / engines / transmissions

Global overview only. Exact outputs are market- and year-specific. Confirm VIN.

• Petrol — MPI / TSI

  Gen I historical petrol includes 1.6, 1.6 FSI, 1.2 TSI, 1.4 TSI and 2.0 FSI. Gen II uses TSI families including later 1.5 TSI. Same badge does not guarantee identical hardware — confirm engine code.

• Diesel — TDI

  Gen I includes 1.9 TDI, 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI; Gen II continues TDI. DPF/EGR/AdBlue themes stay with usage profile and engine code.

• EcoFuel — CNG (Touran I)

  1.4 TSI EcoFuel and 2.0 EcoFuel on Touran I where offered. Keep gas-system inspections and tank records separate from ICE-only rows. Not a generation.

• Transmissions

  Manual and DSG dual-clutch depending on generation and engine. Fluid intervals are gearbox-code specific. Primarily FWD.

• Seating

  5-seat and 7-seat layouts with sliding/folding rear seating. Third-row practicality and wear differ — log configuration.

• Body / derivative

  Five-door compact MPV. CrossTouran is a Gen I raised derivative — not Gen III.

6. Owner-reported themes

Investigation themes only — not universal defects and not diagnostic advice. Always filter by generation, engine, gearbox and market. Never invent failure rates. Separate owner reports from verified defects.

• Gen I (2003–2015)

  Age-related electrics, suspension wear, DSG/mechatronics on relevant cars, TSI/TDI engine-specific themes, EcoFuel gas-system age, sliding/folding seat mechanisms, brakes, AC and 12V battery.

• Gen II MQB (2015–)

  Water-pump / cooling and timing themes on relevant engines, DSG servicing, electrical/infotainment, DPF/EGR/AdBlue, seat mechanisms, high-mileage suspension, brakes, AC and 12V.

• DSG / mechatronics

  Harsh shifts and missed fluid invoices — gearbox-code first.

• Water pump / cooling & timing

  Engine-code specific — never invent one Touran timing rule.

• EcoFuel

  Tank, valves, regulators and periodic gas inspections — Gen I powertrain-specific.

• Sliding / folding seats & doors

  Seat-track / folding mechanisms, third row, ISOFIX, doors, tailgate, water ingress and boot wear — not van sliding side doors.

• 7-seat third row

  Mechanism wear and ISOFIX/usage evidence on 7-seat cars.

7. Service & maintenance

Never publish one universal Touran service interval. Store VIN, market, generation, model year, engine code, powertrain, transmission, mileage, oil/filter, timing belt/chain, DSG, coolant, brakes, tyres, battery, emissions-system work, software, recalls and invoices.

8. Inspection & roadworthiness

Never title this “MOT” globally. UK MOT; Germany TÜV/HU; Spain ITV; Poland/Hungary periodic inspection; Turkey TÜVTÜRK; other markets local rules.

• Log the local inspection certificate separately from manufacturer service stamps
• UK: MOT history is useful provenance — not a substitute for full service invoices
• Record advisories, failures and repairs with dates and mileage

9. Recalls & campaigns

• Store campaign IDs, completion dates and invoices in Garage
• Import/grey-market cars may need original-market campaign checks

10. Buying used

• VIN, generation, model year — confirm Gen I vs Gen II (never invent Gen III)
• Log CrossTouran only as a derivative if applicable
• Engine, gearbox, seating configuration (5/7), EcoFuel status, import status
• Cold start, leaks, turbo, clutch/DSG, brakes, suspension, tyres, AC
• Sliding seats, third row, ISOFIX, doors, tailgate, water ingress and boot wear
• Recall completion evidence for that VIN and market
• Import paperwork and original-market handbook when not local-spec
