Model overview — global Taigo identity

1. Generations & platforms

• Taigo — first/current generation, 2021–present (MQB A0)

  The European Taigo is modelled as one generation. MQB A0, five-door, five-seat coupé-style crossover. Volkswagen launched it in 2021 as its first small SUV coupé, alongside Polo and T-Cross as the third MQB model in the A0 segment.

• Technical stages — not Gen 2

  Do not invent a Taigo Gen 2. Track future facelifts and model-year changes as taigo-gen1-early, taigo-gen1-update and taigo-gen1-current. Stage tags are metadata inside the same generation.

• Nivus — regional relation, not European spec

  The Taigo is closely related to the Volkswagen Nivus sold in other markets. Keep regional naming as a separate market/model mapping. Never silently merge Nivus specifications into European Taigo.

2. Market & model information

• Engine, trim, transmission and equipment vary by market and year
• Service programmes and inspection systems are market-local — never assume UK MOT globally
• US / Canada / Australia-NZ: not sold as mainstream retail Taigo under that nameplate
• Latin America Nivus and selected export cars: original-market VIN — not EU clones

3. Engines, powertrains & body style

Petrol 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI are the core European families (three- and four-cylinder turbo-petrol). 5-speed manual on selected 1.0 TSI, 6-speed manual on selected versions, 7-speed DSG. FWD only.

• Petrol — 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI

  European launch information lists 1.0 TSI in 70 kW / 95 PS and 81 kW / 110 PS classes and 1.5 TSI 110 kW / 150 PS. Same displacement badge does not guarantee identical hardware. Confirm engine code.

• Transmissions

  5-speed manual on selected 1.0 TSI versions, 6-speed manual on selected versions, 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic. Store gearbox code where known. DSG maintenance is configuration-dependent.

• Drivetrain

  Front-wheel drive. There is no need to model 4MOTION as a standard Taigo configuration.

• Body style

  Five-door, five-seat SUV coupé / crossover: raised driving position, sloping coupé-style rear, hatchback tailgate, compact urban footprint. Body style is the key distinction from Polo hatchback and T-Cross SUV.

• Infotainment / software

  Infotainment freezes, connectivity and software campaigns — log dates and versions.

• 12V battery / electrical behaviour

  Weak 12V can look like infotainment or ADAS faults. Log replacements separately.

• Parking sensors / cameras / driver-assistance calibration

  Cameras, radar and assist systems need calibration after glass/bumper work. Log software and calibration dates.

• DSG behaviour / service (where fitted)

  Judder, mechatronic behaviour and fluid/adaptation invoices. Configuration-dependent.

• Cooling system

  Water pump / coolant weeps appear as MQB A0 investigation themes — record mileage, parts and engine code.

• Turbocharged petrol engine maintenance

  1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI themes are engine-code first — timing system, oil spec, turbo and load behaviour.

• Brakes, tyres and suspension

  Urban use, pad/disc wear, tyre life, bushes and dampers. Log sizes, dates and mileage.

• Trim / rattle issues

  Interior rattles and urban cosmetic wear — practical-use themes, not a confirmed campaign unless documented.

7. Service & maintenance

Do not publish a universal Taigo service interval. Record VIN, market, model year, generation/technical stage, engine code, powertrain, transmission, drivetrain, mileage, service date, oil and filter work, spark plugs, coolant, brakes, tyres, battery, DSG service where applicable, software updates, recalls/campaigns and invoices/photos.

Use market-specific terminology. Inspection history should be stored against the vehicle VIN.

12. Related models

Use technical similarity rather than brand alone. Polo and T-Cross are the correct MQB A0 relations. Nivus is regional — not the same European spec.
