Model overview — global T-Cross identity

1. Generations & platforms

• T-Cross — core generation 2018–present (MQB A0)

  Presented in 2018 as a practical urban SUV, 54 mm longer than Polo with a raised driving position. Five-door, five-seat crossover. Wheelbase quoted at 2,563 mm for the original model; up to 1,281 litres of storage with seats configured appropriately. Drivetrain: predominantly FWD. European launch petrol/diesel listed separately below.

• 2024 major update — same generation

  Treat as a major update/facelift within the same core generation, not Gen 2. Volkswagen described revised front and rear, standard LED headlights, LED rear clusters, IQ.LIGHT LED matrix available, new infotainment generation, improved dashboard/material quality, digital instruments standard, expanded assistance systems and Travel Assist availability.

• Taigun / Tacqua — regional names, not a second generation

  Volkswagen states that T-Cross is sold outside Europe under names including Tacqua and Taigun. Keep regionalName, regionalTrim and market metadata. Do not collapse those vehicles into one universal European specification.

2. Market & model information

• Engine, trim, transmission and equipment vary by market and year
• Service programmes and inspection systems are market-local — never assume UK MOT globally
• US / Canada: not sold as mainstream retail T-Cross under that nameplate
• India Taigun, China Tacqua, South Africa and selected Latin American cars: original-market VIN — not EU clones

3. Engines, powertrains & body style

Petrol 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI are the core European families. Historic 1.6 TDI 95 PS was in the original European range. Manual and DSG depending on engine/year/market. Predominantly FWD — do not assume 4MOTION.

• Petrol — 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI

  Original European launch: 1.0 TSI 70 kW / 95 PS, 1.0 TSI 85 kW / 115 PS, 1.5 TSI 110 kW / 150 PS. Current European update repeats 1.0 TSI 95/115 PS and 1.5 TSI 150 PS. Same displacement badge does not guarantee identical hardware.

• Diesel — historic 1.6 TDI

  Original European range included 1.6 TDI 70 kW / 95 PS. Availability is market- and model-year-specific and should not be assumed for current vehicles.

• Transmissions

  Manual and DSG depending on engine, year and market. Store gearbox code where known. DSG maintenance is configuration-dependent.

• Drivetrain

  Predominantly front-wheel drive. Do not assume 4MOTION is available.

• Body style

  Five-door, five-seat compact SUV/crossover. Sliding rear bench and flexible luggage area (Volkswagen quotes 385–455 litres behind the rear bench depending on loading position). Do not invent a separate coupé, estate or convertible generation.

  Where fitted: judder, mechatronic behaviour and fluid/adaptation invoices. Configuration-dependent.

• TSI engine-specific concerns

  1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI themes are engine-code first — timing system, oil spec, turbo and load behaviour.

• Cooling system

  Water pump / coolant weeps appear as MQB A0 investigation themes — record mileage, parts and engine code.

• Brakes and tyres

  Urban use, pad/disc wear and tyre life. Log sizes, dates and mileage.

• Suspension wear

  Bushes, dampers and urban pothole wear — class-typical, not a universal defect list.

• ADAS sensor / calibration

  Cameras, radar and Travel Assist (where equipped) need calibration after glass/bumper work. Log software and calibration dates.

• Interior trim / rattles

  Sliding-bench mechanisms, boot floor and trim rattles — practical-use wear, not a confirmed campaign unless documented.

7. Service & maintenance

Do not publish a universal T-Cross service interval. Record VIN, market, model year, technical stage, engine code, powertrain, transmission, drivetrain, mileage, service date/type, oil, filters, spark plugs, timing system, DSG service, coolant, brakes, tyres, battery, software, recalls and documents.
