Model overview — global Q3 identity

1. Generations & platforms

• 8U — first generation (2011–2018)

  First Q3 on PQ35-class architecture. Compact premium SUV with petrol and diesel families by market; Haldex quattro where fitted. Do not invent extra 8U generations for facelift stages.

• F3 — second generation (2018–2025)

  MQB compact SUV with Sportback body style, RS Q3 / RS Q3 Sportback and Q3 45 TFSI e PHEV. Facelift stages stay inside F3 — not separate gens.

• Third generation (2025–present)

  Audi confirms the third generation launched in 2025 (SUV and Sportback), with combustion and e-hybrid PHEV offers. Public documentation also references Typ FJ — log third generation + model year; do not invent a fourth gen for MY2027.

• MY2027 update — stage only

  The 2026 update for the 2027 model year adds standard equipment and digital features within the third generation. Log as stage / model year — never as Gen 4.

• Sportback · RS Q3 · PHEV derivatives

  Sportback = body style. RS Q3 / RS Q3 Sportback = performance. Keep F3 45 TFSI e separate from third-gen e-hybrid in the garage.

2. Market & model information

• Engine, trim, transmission and drivetrain availability vary by market, generation and year
• Service programmes (Fixed/Flexible) and inspection systems are market-local — never assume UK MOT globally
• US / Canada: retail Q3 exists — powertrain packs differ from full EU diesel/PHEV lists
• Hungary / Győr production is important for later generations — still confirm VIN for any individual car

3. Engines, powertrains & drivetrains

Engine availability changed by market, generation and year. Do not present one engine list as universal. Always resolve generation + engine code first. V2 will deepen engine → gearbox → MY → market matrices.

  Important families include 1.4 / 1.5 / 2.0 TFSI-class units and RS 2.5 TFSI depending on generation and market. Same displacement badge does not guarantee identical hardware.

• Diesel — TDI (selected markets / years)

  Diesel TDI was offered in selected markets and years across generations. Confirm VIN — do not assume diesel availability for every market (notably many US cars).

• PHEV — 45 TFSI e (F3) · e-hybrid (third gen)

  Treat F3 Q3 45 TFSI e and third-gen Q3 e-hybrid as separate plug-in families. Log system output, battery evidence and charging separately — do not invent one PHEV matrix.

• Transmissions — manual / S tronic / Tiptronic

  Manual, S tronic dual-clutch and Tiptronic (selected markets/years) depending on generation and powertrain. Store transmission (and gearbox code where known) separately from engine family.

• Drive — FWD / quattro · Sportback / RS

  Front-wheel drive and Haldex-based quattro depending on powertrain and market. Sportback is body style only. RS Q3 is quattro performance. Log drive type and body explicitly.

• Engine and oil consumption

  Oil consumption, leaks, ignition, turbocharger-related faults and warning lights — always generation- and engine-code specific before associating a theme with a vehicle.

• Timing system

  Different Q3 engines use different timing-system designs across 8U/F3/third gen. Avoid “the Q3 has a timing belt/chain” as a universal claim. Record engine code, type, inspection/replacement history, mileage and invoices.

• S tronic / dual-clutch

  Clutch behaviour, hesitation, judder, mechatronic faults, gearbox warnings and fluid/service history where applicable — tie to the exact gearbox code.

• Haldex quattro

  Pump strainer clogging, fluid neglect and FWD-only behaviour — log dedicated Haldex oil changes with mileage. Not every Q3 is quattro.

• PHEV HV and charging

  Charge behaviour, HV warnings, 12V interaction and combustion/PHEV service evidence — keep F3 45 TFSI e separate from third-gen e-hybrid.

• Cooling system

  Coolant leaks, thermostat work, water-pump work, overheating warnings and coolant-level changes — log with mileage and parts.

• Suspension and steering

  Front suspension components, dampers, springs, bushes, wheel bearings, steering faults and alignment — RS setups can differ.

• Brakes and tyres

  MMI faults, Bluetooth/connectivity, navigation, cluster issues, cameras, parking sensors, warning lights and software updates — note generation and MY2027-stage cars.

• ADAS

  Audi pre sense, parking sensors, cameras, cruise control, lane assistance and calibration after windscreen or body repairs where fitted.

7. Service & maintenance (market-aware)

Concrete figures must come from the Audi Fixed or Flexible programme for this VIN — not a universal Q3 rule. Use the market selector for regional framing. Timing row is always engine-code specific. MY2027 stages do not invent new universal interval tables.

Never title this section “MOT” globally. Local system names change with the market selector.
