About Audi
Audi has been building cars since 1909 — and after the Auto Union years became Volkswagen Group's premium brand from 1965 onward. Best known for quattro all-wheel drive, S tronic dual-clutch gearboxes and Digital Service Plan (DSP) provenance, Audi sits above VW and Skoda in the group hierarchy while still sharing MQB, MLB and MEB underpinnings with sister brands. For UK and EU owners that means Golf/A3 or Touareg/Q7 service themes often travel across the badge, which is why this site's guides frequently cross-link Audi to VW Group siblings.
In the 2026 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey, Audi ranked 23rd out of 30 brands with a score of 83.56% (Auto Express, 24 June 2026).
Platform legend
Short reference for the platform shorthand used in the model cards below.
| Platform | Used on (Audi) | What it means for owners |
|---|---|---|
| MQB | A3 (8V), Q3 (F3), TT (8S) | Volkswagen Group's modular combustion-engine platform — shared underpinnings mean shared engines, gearboxes and common issues across VW/Skoda/SEAT/Audi siblings |
| MQB A0 | A1, Q2 | The smaller-footprint version of MQB, used for superminis and small crossovers — same shared-parts logic, smaller cars |
| MQB Evo | A3 (8Y, current gen) | An updated version of MQB with revised electronics architecture and, in most cases, newer-generation engines |
| MLB | A4 (B8), A6 (C7), Q5 (8R) | Audi's earlier longitudinal-engine platform for mid-size and larger models — shared engines and gearboxes with that generation's VW Group siblings |
| MLB Evo | A4 (B9), A5, A6 (C8), Q5 (FY), Q7, Q8, Q8 e-tron (EV adaptation) | Updated longitudinal platform shared with VW Touareg, Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus — Q8 e-tron uses an MLB Evo-based EV architecture (not MEB or PPE) |
| MEB | Q4 e-tron | Volkswagen Group's dedicated electric-vehicle platform — no combustion-engine parts at all; maintenance shifts toward battery, coolant-loop and software items instead |
| PPE | Q6 e-tron, e-tron GT, A6 e-tron | Premium Platform Electric — a dedicated EV architecture co-developed with Porsche (shared with the Macan EV and Taycan), running an 800V electrical system for faster DC charging than MEB-based Audis. A completely different maintenance and diagnostic base from MEB — don't assume a Q4 e-tron guide applies to a Q6 e-tron. |
| PQ35 | Q3 (8U, first gen) | Earlier VW Group compact platform (pre-MQB) — shared engines and gearboxes with Golf/Tiguan-era siblings of that generation |
Two Audis on the same platform often share the same known issues and the same fix — that's why guides on this site are frequently cross-linked across models.
