UK service interval

BMW 3 Series UK servicing is Condition Based Service (CBS) and VIN-led — confirm the iDrive service menu and BMW schedule. Focus on oil/CBS, brake fluid, plugs, filters, brakes, tyres (xDrive matching), coolant, gearbox/diff/transfer case where applicable, 48V/PHEV/BEV items where fitted, software and recalls. Always tag generation: E21 · E30 · E36 · E46 · E90 · F30 · G20 · G50. Never merge I01 i3 hatch procedures into Neue Klasse i3 Saloon. Never treat 4 Series as a current 3 Series body for service identity.

Intervals are whichever comes first (miles or months) unless noted. They vary by engine, model year, market and service regime. Confirm in the handbook, service booklet or dealer system for your VIN before you book work.

Model years

  • 1975–1983 (E21): Gen 1 RWD two-door. Age-based rubber/cooling/corrosion care. Do not apply modern CBS/xDrive/PHEV rows.

UK notes

  • BMW Condition Based Service drives item timing — trust iDrive and the retailer printout for your VIN over forum “every X miles” advice. Always record generation (E21–G50) and powertrain.
  • UK G20/G21 330e (~19.5 kWh, 11 kW AC, ~60–63 mile e-range) and M340i xDrive (392 hp / 540 Nm / 48V) figures are market-labelled — do not universalise to every VIN or market.
  • Never merge I01 BMW i3 hatch service advice into Neue Klasse i3 Saloon. Never treat 4 Series as a current 3 Series body for service identity.
  • Intervals are whichever comes first (miles or months) unless noted. They vary by engine, model year, market and service regime. Confirm in the handbook, service booklet or dealer system for your VIN before you book work. Legal note: Service intervals and specifications shown are indicative and collected from public or community sources. Official schedules may vary by model year, engine code, market, or dealer updates. Always verify the vehicle handbook (VIN) or consult an authorised dealer before work.

FAQ

How often should you service a BMW 3 Series in the UK?
Follow CBS prompts in iDrive and the BMW handbook for your VIN. UK owners typically see annual / ~10,000–12,000-mile oil services with separate CBS items for brake fluid and microfilter. Tag generation (E21–G50) and powertrain on every stamp.
Does a 330e need different servicing from a 320i?
Yes. PHEV cars add high-voltage battery, charging and thermal-management checks and have different boot packaging. Keep HV records separate from 12V and never invent SoH claims without diagnostics.
Is G50 serviced the same as G20?
No. G50 is the eighth generation on Neue Klasse architecture with different software (OS X) and electric derivatives. Confirm the VIN schedule — do not assume continuous G20 procedures.
