UK service interval
BMW i5 (G60 Saloon / G61 Touring, 2023–) UK EV servicing follows Condition Based Service (CBS) — confirm the handbook and iDrive for your VIN. Focus on brakes, tyres, brake fluid, cabin filter, thermal/coolant loops, high-voltage checks, 12V, software/OTA, battery health and charging systems. Saloon and Touring are bodies in one family, not extra generations. eDrive40, xDrive40 and M60 xDrive change performance provenance, not the need for a documented history. Do not apply this UK sheet to the India G68 Long Wheelbase, and do not copy combustion 5 Series oil intervals onto an i5.
Intervals are whichever comes first (miles or months) unless noted. They vary by engine, model year, market and service regime. Confirm in the handbook, service booklet or dealer system for your VIN before you book work.
| Service | Miles | Months | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scheduled EV inspection / CBS service (i5) | Per CBS / often ~10,000–12,000 | Often ~12 (confirm iDrive) | G60/G61 — oil-free EV inspection. Whichever CBS shows for this VIN. |
| Brake fluid | — | Typically ~24 months / CBS | Calendar replacement — regen reduces pad use but fluid still ages. |
| 12V battery test | — | Every service, or sooner if symptoms | Load-test, not voltage-only. HV SoH does not prove 12V health. |
| Cabin microfilter | — | Often 12 / CBS | Annual habit where the handbook says so. |
| Tyres, pressures and alignment | Regular | Every service | Heavy EV and instant torque. M60 wheel/tyre specs cost more. |
| Brake pads, discs and corrosion | — | Every service | Under-use corrosion is an EV theme — inspect, do not assume no wear. |
| Suspension, steering and Touring air springs | — | Every service / as needed | Rear air suspension only where the Touring specification has it. |
| Coolant / thermal management | — | Per BMW schedule | HV and cabin loops. Log thermal warnings. |
| High-voltage and charging hardware | — | Per BMW schedule / campaigns | Authorised EV technician. Log AC/DC faults separately from SoH. |
| Software / OTA version check | — | At service or when prompted | Record iDrive / OS generation and date. An update is not a new generation. |
| Battery health / SoH | — | Owner / dealer / third-party as available | Store test type with the percentage. Do not infer SoH from range. Launch usable 81.2 kWh is not the India 81.6 kWh figure. |
| Recall / campaign check | — | At every service | VIN and market specific. Do not generalise a regional campaign. |
UK notes
- Intervals are whichever comes first (miles or months) unless noted. They vary by engine, model year, market and service regime. Confirm in the handbook, service booklet or dealer system for your VIN before you book work.
FAQ
- How often should you service a BMW i5 in the UK?
- Follow BMW Condition Based Service in iDrive for your VIN. UK owners typically see annual / ~10,000–12,000-mile oil-free EV inspections with CBS prompts for brake fluid and filters — confirm the handbook. Log battery health, charging history and software separately. This UK habit is not a world interval and not the India G68 schedule.
- Is the i5 Touring a different service generation?
- No. G61 Touring and G60 Saloon are bodies in one family. Rear air suspension, where fitted, is an extra inspection item, not a new generation. G68 India Long Wheelbase is a separate car and is not covered by this UK sheet.
