About Skoda
Skoda has been building cars since 1895 — originally as Laurin & Klement, one of the oldest car manufacturers in the world — and has been part of the Volkswagen Group since 1991, sharing platforms and engines with VW, SEAT/Cupra and Audi while keeping its own reputation for practicality, generous interior space, and value for money. In the UK, Skoda has built a loyal following on exactly those strengths, with the Octavia and Kodiaq consistently among its best-sellers.
In the 2026 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey (Auto Express, published 24 June 2026), Skoda placed 20th out of 30 manufacturers with a score of 83.96% — the best-performing brand within the Volkswagen Group that year, ahead of Volkswagen itself (26th, 82.86%), Audi (23rd) and Cupra (27th).
Platform legend
Short reference for the platform shorthand used in the model cards below.
| Platform | Used on (Skoda) | What it means for owners |
|---|---|---|
| MQB | Octavia, Superb, Karoq, Kodiaq (pre-facelift generations) | Volkswagen Group's modular combustion-engine platform — shared underpinnings mean shared engines, gearboxes and common issues across VW/SEAT/Audi siblings |
| MQB A0 | Scala, Kamiq, Fabia | The smaller-footprint version of MQB, used for superminis and small crossovers — same shared-parts logic, smaller cars |
| MQB Evo | Octavia, Superb (current generations) | An updated version of MQB with revised electronics architecture and, in most cases, newer-generation engines |
| MEB | Enyaq, Elroq | Volkswagen Group's dedicated electric-vehicle platform — no combustion-engine parts at all; maintenance shifts toward battery, coolant-loop and software items instead |
| PQ35 | Yeti | Earlier VW Group compact platform (pre-MQB) — shared engines and gearboxes with Golf/Tiguan-era siblings of that generation |
| PQ25 | Rapid (EU) | Skoda's Polo-based supermini platform (shared with VW Polo Mk5) — discontinued in Europe in 2019; not related to the newer MQB A0-IN Rapid still sold in some export markets |
Two Skodas on the same platform often share the same known issues and the same fix — that's why guides on this site are frequently cross-linked across models.
