UK service interval
BMW iX (I20, 2021–present) UK EV servicing is Condition Based Service (CBS) and VIN-led — confirm the iDrive service menu and BMW schedule. Focus on EV inspection items: brakes, tyres, brake fluid, cabin filter, coolant/thermal loops, high-voltage checks, 12V, software/OTA, battery health and charging systems — not combustion oil changes. Keep original xDrive40/xDrive50/M60 and 2025+ xDrive45/xDrive60/M70 stage provenance separate. The 2025 update is not a new generation.
Intervals are whichever comes first (miles or months) unless noted. They vary by engine, model year, market and service regime. Confirm in the handbook, service booklet or dealer system for your VIN before you book work.
| Service | Miles | Months | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scheduled EV inspection / service (iX) | CBS / typically ~10,000–12,000 | Often annual (confirm iDrive) | I20 CBS — do not invent a universal miles interval. Whichever the dealer system / iDrive shows for this VIN. |
| Brake fluid | — | CBS (often ~24 months) | Calendar replacement — regen reduces pad use but fluid still ages. |
| 12V battery test | — | Every service, or sooner if symptoms | Load-test, not voltage-only. Separate from HV traction pack SoH. |
| Cabin / pollen filter | — | CBS / often 12 | Annual habit on most EVs. |
| Tyres, pressures & alignment | Regular | Every service | Heavy SAV EV + torque; load/speed ratings and wheel choice affect range. |
| Brake pads / discs / corrosion | — | Every service | Under-use corrosion is an EV theme — inspect, do not assume no wear. |
| Coolant / thermal management check | — | Per BMW schedule | HV and cabin loops — specialist EV work; log thermal warnings and battery preconditioning behaviour. |
| High-voltage system inspection | — | Per BMW schedule / campaigns | Authorised EV technician. Log HV warnings and battery-related repairs. |
| Software / OTA / ConnectedDrive check | — | At service or when prompted | Record OS/iDrive version and date — software is part of EV provenance (Remote Software Upgrade). |
| Battery health / diagnostic | — | Owner / dealer / third-party as available | Distinct Digital Service History event. Never infer SoH from range display alone. |
| Charging system / port / cable check | — | Every service / as needed | AC ~11 kW and DC peak (150–200 kW class by derivative/stage) session notes belong in charging history. |
| Recall / campaign check | — | At every service | VIN + market specific — battery, charging, software, ADAS, HV. |

- 2021–present (one I20 generation): UK iX: CBS calendar/mileage prompts. 2025 update is a technical stage — not a new generation. Bind derivative (40/50/M60 vs 45/60/M70) to production stage.
UK notes
- BMW Condition Based Service drives item timing — trust iDrive and the retailer printout for your VIN over forum “every X miles” advice.
- Intervals are whichever comes first (miles or months) unless noted. They vary by engine, model year, market and service regime. Confirm in the handbook, service booklet or dealer system for your VIN before you book work.
FAQ
- How often should you service a BMW iX in the UK?
- Follow CBS prompts in iDrive and the BMW handbook for your VIN. UK owners typically see annual / ~10,000–12,000-mile oil-free EV inspections with separate CBS items for brake fluid and filters. Log battery health, charging history and software separately.
- Is the 2025 iX a new generation for service purposes?
- No. The 2025 comprehensive update remains within I20. Confirm the VIN schedule for your model year and derivative (original xDrive40/50/M60 vs 2025+ xDrive45/60/M70).
