Install a Dash Trim Skin (Non-Airbag Surfaces)

Vinyl or leather dash skins can refresh worn MQB interiors without replacing the whole dashboard. This guide covers prep and installation on non-airbag surfaces of a Tiguan — always avoid covering airbag badges or sensor zones.

Procedure

Step 1: Identify safe coverage zones

Only apply skins to flat trim areas — never over passenger airbag badges, speaker grilles, or sensor windows. Mark boundaries with low-tack tape.

Step 2: Deep clean the surface

Wipe with IPA (70%+) twice and allow to flash off. Remove all silicone-based dressings — they prevent adhesive bonding.

Step 3: Dry-fit the skin

Lay the skin without removing backing paper. Align against factory seams and switch cut-outs. Trim excess with a sharp blade only where the kit instructs.

Step 4: Apply with heat

Peel backing in sections. Use light heat to soften vinyl around curves. Work from centre outward with a squeegee to avoid bubbles.

Step 5: Final pass and cure

Allow 24 hours before cleaning or applying interior dressing. Avoid direct sun on the first day so adhesive can set evenly.
